SMSC CALENDAR 2016-2017
S = Social M = Moral S = Spiritual C = Cultural

Throughout the school year we hold weekly Celebration Assemblies to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts and good deeds of children and adults across the school.
These assemblies incorporate Social and Moral aspects of SMSC.

Two or three times each term we hold Brookfield Buddy Assemblies when children have the opportunity to thank other children or adults who have been caring, friendly and supportive towards them.
These assemblies incorporate Social and Moral aspects of SMSC.

Two or three times each term we hold UNICEF Assemblies to help children have a better understanding of the rights of children across the world;
for example ~ the right to be healthy, to be safe, to be looked after etc.
These assemblies incorporate Social, Moral and Cultural aspects of SMSC.

Family Trust visit us each term and bring active and interesting assemblies for the children to share and learn about important aspects within the Christian calendar.

	Cultural afternoon	Social Moral Cultural	Children have the opportunity to consider the difficulties experienced by refugees fleeing from their native land.
October	National Poetry Day	Social Spiritual	Opportunity to write and share poems.
3rd	Grandparents Day	Social	Opportunities for children to share their learning experiences with their family across the generations.
4th	Big Macmillan Coffee Day	Social Moral	Raising awareness of the care and support that Macmillan nurses give to cancer patients and the importance of fundraising to support these events.
18th	Harvest Festival	Spiritual Cultural	Giving thanks for the goodness of nature’s harvest and sharing our food collection with those within our community who are less fortunate than ourselves.
19th	Visit to Kent Life	Cultural	Yr4 children learn about the Ancient Greek civilisation ~ their traditions and beliefs.
Term 2	British Values Assemblies	Social Moral Cultural	Theme = Justice ~ Rule of Law Children learn about Right and Wrong; Children learn about GB laws and procedures and how they compare to others around the world.
November	Anti-Bullying Week	Social Moral	Raising awareness of bullying and what we can do to stop it.
	All Saints/All Souls day	Spiritual Cultural	Children develop an understanding of the origins of these autumn festivals.
	Guru Nanak’s birthday	Spiritual Cultural	Children learn about the Hindu spiritual leader and the religious celebrations.
11th	Remembrance Assembly	Moral Spiritual Cultural	Assembly led by Yr6 to ensure children remember World War II in Britain and the sacrifices made by our ancestors.
13th	Children in Need Charity	Social	Building children’s awareness of the difficulties that other children face. Opportunities for children to raise funds to support others in need.
	Thanksgiving Assembly	Spiritual Cultural	Children develop an understanding of the events that mark this celebration in USA.
	St Andrew’s Day	Social Spiritual Cultural	Helping children to understand the importance of St. Andrew’s day to people living in Scotland.
December	Family Trust Nativity Christmas Play	Social Moral Spiritual Cultural	Helping children understand the importance of Advent and Christmas within Christianity. Celebrating the true meaning of the Christian festival.

February	Safer Internet Day	Social Moral	Raising awareness of how to stay safe when using the internet and other mobile technologies.
	Chinese New Year	Spiritual Cultural	Children learn how Chinese people celebrate their New Year.
	Shrove Tuesday Ash Wednesday Lent	Social Moral Spiritual Cultural	Children understand the connection and relevance of events in the Christian calendar leading up to Easter.
Term 4	British Values Assemblies	Social Moral Cultural	Theme = Democracy Children learn that in Britain we vote for the people who make the laws and decide how the country is run. We have a voice and we make choices.

26th	Brookfield’s 50th GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY	Social Moral Cultural	Children understand why anniversaries are celebrated. They have the opportunity to reflect upon times gone by and share celebrations with the community.
